How to Install a Snowmobile Wrap

A sled wrap takes a beating from snow, ice, branches and cold, so prep and edges matter even more than on a side-by-side. This is the same process we use in our shop.

Work somewhere warm

Install indoors in a warm garage. Cold plastic and cold vinyl don't bond well. Bring the sled and the kit inside and let them both warm up before you start.

What you'll need

  • Felt-edge squeegee (not included with KGFX kits)
  • Heat gun
  • Simple Green
  • Denatured alcohol
  • Spray bottle
  • Adhesive remover
  • Microfiber towels

Your install instructions are emailed to you as soon as you order.

Step 1: Remove the factory decals

Warm each factory decal with the heat gun and peel it slowly at a low angle. Sleds often have decals on the hood, side panels and tunnel. Use adhesive remover to get every bit of glue off.

Step 2: Wash it down

Wash the whole sled with Simple Green, rinse and let it dry completely. Get into the seams and around the hood where dirt hides.

Step 3: Final clean with denatured alcohol

Wipe every panel with denatured alcohol. This is the step that makes a sled wrap stay on in the cold, so don't skip it.

Step 4: Mix the install solution

Mix half denatured alcohol and half water in a spray bottle. Mist the panel and the adhesive side, set the piece, and slide it into position.

Step 5: Squeegee from the center out

Use the felt squeegee, working from the center to the edges to push out the solution and air. On the hood, work slowly and follow the curves.

Step 6: Heat and press every edge

Heat the vinyl and keep pressing it down, especially on the hood curves, side panel edges and tunnel. The tunnel takes the most abuse, so give those edges extra heat and pressure.

Step 7: Let it set before riding

Let the wrap dry and bond indoors before taking the sled out in the cold. Check edges the next day and re-heat any that lifted.

Care

The laminate is scratch resistant, not scratch proof. Avoid scraping ice off with anything hard. Let it melt or brush it off.

FAQ

Can I install a sled wrap in the cold?

No. Work indoors and let the sled and the kit warm up first.

Do I have to remove the factory decals?

Yes. A wrap over old decals won't sit flat and will lift at the edges.

Do you make tunnel wraps?

Yes. See our tunnel wraps.
